These titles signify leadership, outstanding contributions to the university, discipline, and profession, and a substantial national and international reputation in research, scholarship, teaching, learning, and academic leadership.

This document outlines the processes and criteria for awarding academic titles in recognition of scholarly accomplishments at Eminence University. The following sections describe the procedures for appointments and the annual conferment process.

Reference Process

External Academic Referees

Referee Requirements

Applicants for professorial appointments must submit the names and contact details of five external academic referees who are well-placed to evaluate their qualifications based on the stated criteria.

Professorial Standing

Must be of professorial standing in a field related to the applicant's area of expertise.

Independence Required

Must be independent, meaning they have not closely worked, collaborated, or supervised the applicant within the past five years.

No Personal Relationships

Must not be personal partners or family members of the applicant.

Selection & Evaluation Process

Board Selection

From the five referees nominated by the applicant, the Professorial and Readership Board will select three to provide formal references.

Independent Evaluation

Additionally, the Board will solicit evaluations from two independent referees of its own choosing within the applicant's field.

Written Assessments

The role of external referees is to provide written assessments that help guide the Professorial Board's decision regarding the applicant's suitability for a professorial title.

Appointment Criteria

Criteria for Professorial Appointments

Receiving the title of Professor from Eminence University reflects an individual's outstanding, significant, and lasting contributions to their academic discipline both nationally and internationally.

Applicants must show achievement across at least three of the four key areas outlined below and must excel in at least one.

Contributions to Research and Scholarship at an International Level

Exceptional and internationally recognized research achievement, shown through a sustained record of innovative, significant, and high-quality outputs appropriate to their field.
Success in securing major research funding and building strong research collaborations with external bodies.
Authorship or co-authorship of refereed publications, as well as presenting findings at major national and international forums.
Effective supervision of research students to completion.
Application of research to practical contexts, including business, public service, the arts, consultancy, policy-making, or creative practice.
Recognition as an expert nationally and internationally, evidenced through journal peer reviewing, grant reviewing, membership of editorial boards, and invitations to speak at prestigious events.

Contributions to Teaching Innovation and Advancement

Leadership in pedagogy and professional practice, such as national and international involvement in learning and teaching development, external examining, or presenting at academic teaching conferences.
Development of innovative teaching methods or courses, influencing the broader discipline and enhancing the student learning experience university-wide or beyond.
Scholarly contributions to the field of teaching and learning, including external funding for educational projects and publications.
Recognition and leadership in education, including committee roles, professional body involvement, and external influence on academic program development at a national or international scale.
